1820 Orange Fitzhugh Platter

1820 Orange Fitzhugh Platter

Offered for sale is a stunning large Chinese Export orange Fitzhugh platter, circa 1800 – 1820. The platter features a butterfly and Greek key border with four fruit and floral quadrants framing a central roundel. The orange color is quite rare.

The Fitzhugh pattern was named after an English family who ordered a blue and white service with this distinctive decoration around 1780. The pattern became particularly popular in England and America, the grandest made in more unusual colors such as orange.

The platter is in excellent condition, finely detailed, with minor rub to the rim due to age.
