18th C. Dutch Marquetry Demilune Game Table With Two Drawers

18th C. Dutch Marquetry Demilune Game Table With Two Drawers

We are proud to offer an outstanding four-legged, late 18th century, Queen Anne style, Dutch Marquetry game table with hinged lid in an unusual demilune shape. The table features a triple-ovolo shaped top, which hinges and opens to rest on an extendable back leg. The shaped frieze supports two half drawers which hold gaming pieces.

When folded and used as a console, the top and frieze are inlaid in the Antwerp style of marquetry with trailing vines, animals, flora, and an urn, set into a dark mahogany base. When opened for game playing, the top exhibits a pencil-inlaid border.

The table is in excellent condition with minor restorations to some of the inlays and beading occurring from age and shrinkage. The table is a beautiful choice to compliment any room of the house. The 18th century aristocracy treasured these exquisite gaming tables, and the quantity of tables owned by one household was usually a good indication of the wealth of that family. They could also be transported easily to various rooms and would serve a variety of purposes- decorative as well as functional.
