Early 19th C. Miniature Portrait on Ivory of Woman Holding Rose

Early 19th C. Miniature Portrait on Ivory of Woman Holding Rose

$775.00

Although we don’t know who this lovely young woman is, it is obvious that she is in mourning for a loved one. This early 19th century miniature portrait on ivory depicts a young woman dressed in Victorian mourning garb holding a red rose to her breast. She sits in front of a draped curtain with a landscape in the background.

Her black garments and symbolic red rose denotes that she is probably in mourning for a loved one or perhaps this portrait was painted posthumously as a memorandum. The portrait is set into an oval brass frame inset on the obverse with glass and a suspension ring. We have taken close-ups of the jewelry and rose to show the nice detail.

The portrait is in excellent condition.
